Eastbourne have confirmed they have lost both their captain and No.1 to serious injury on a nightmare Good Friday.

Skipper Richard Andrews broke his wrist in a crash during tonight’s 52-37 defeat at Kent.

While the meeting was in progress, Kyle Hughes confirmed via Facebook that be suffered a broken leg near his ankle during the 56-34 home reverse this afternoon.

He will undergo an operation tomorrow to have the injury screwed.

Andrews went through the fence along one of the straights at Sittingbourne after clipping James Shanes’ back wheel.

The injuries capped a dreadful day for Eagles, who start their National League season at Coventry on Monday.

Debut-making Jake Knight was arguably their brightest rider on a tough day, improving from a slow start to score ten points from his four programmed rides tonight en route to 10 (5).

Team manager Glenn Martin said: “It was a bad day but I’m not too disheartened.”
