Chris Eubank Junior says Renold Quinlan is a stepping stone to bigger things as he prepares for his first world title fight.

The Brighton’s fighter has revealed he knew nothing more than Quinlan’s name when given the chance to fight him for his IBO super-middleweight title.

He challenges the Australian on February 4 in London to launch ITV’s Box Office platform in a fight that has been criticised for Quinlan’s profile, its pay-per-view nature and the fact his belt is not universally recognised as a true world title.

But the 27-year-old has defended its legitimacy as he bids to follow in his father’s Chris senior’s footsteps as a world super-middleweight champion.

Eubank Jr said: “I need to be fighting in world title fights, against world level opponents and Renold Quinlan is a world champion so I am going to fight him and take his belt.

“It does matter who it is, if they have a world title I am coming for it. It does not matter who they are or how many fights they’ve had, I am coming for their belt.”
