Johanna Konta kept home hopes alive in the Aegon International at Eastbourne today.
The British No. 1 edged past Ukraine's Lesia Tsurenko 7-6, 6-1 in the second round to set up a clash in the last 16 tomorrow with two-time former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova.
It was painstaking at times for world No. 18 Konta, seeded 11 and awarded a bye in the first round, in the wind and sunshine on Devonshire Park's centre court in her home town tournament.
Tsurenko, ranked 42, pushed her all the way in a tight first set spanning 69 minutes before Konta took it 7-4 in the tie-break.
She then saved three break points in the opening game of the second set on her way to a more comfortable conclusion.
