Bognor’s promotion hopes have suffered a major blow with the news top scorer Terry Dodd is likely to miss the remainder of the season.

Dodd broke a toe in the 3-1 victory at Canvey Island and is expected to be ruled out for up to five weeks.

That would mean the striker would miss the final 11 games of the regular season but could feature if Rocks make it to the play-offs.

The absence of the former Worthing frontman – who has 20 goals to his name in Ryman premier this season – is the latest injury setback for the in-form Rocks after star winger Ben Johnson’s season was also brought to a premature end.

Boss Jamie Howell said: “Terry has scored 33 goals for us in all competitions this season so it is a massive blow.

“I would like to bring in another striker with him out but at this stage of the season it is difficult to find quality players who are available.

“It’s frustrating as we have got ourselves in a really good position only for injuries to jeopardise what we have worked so hard for.

“On Tuesday (at Canvey Island) we had to bring on Dabba (head coach Darin Kilpartrick) for a few minutes at the end because our squad is so depleted.”

Howell is hoping that forwards Ashley Harris (hamstring) and Dan Thompson (illness) will have recovered in time for the trip to Bury Town to help offset the loss of Dodd. Skipper Kane Wills definitely misses out due to an ankle injury.
