Bognor are keen to extend the loan of Albion goalkeeper Grant Smith until the end of the season.

Smith has kept three consecutive clean sheets for the Rocks to boost their play-off hopes and will be aiming for a fourth at home to Leiston today.

The 20-year-old has another two weeks left on his temporary stay but boss Jamie Howell intends to hold discussions with the Seagulls about keeping him longer.

Howell said: “Grant has made a massive difference. Along with the two centre-backs Stuart Axten and Craig Robson they have been brilliant in the last few games where we’ve really had to defend.

“He’s played five games and only conceded one goal which speaks for itself. He looks very assured and that gives confidence to the rest of the team.

“I think it has been good for him to learn about the rough and tough of men’s football too so we’ll speak to Albion and see what we can do. It’s complicated a bit by the fact we’ve got (goalkeeper) Will Britt signed on loan from Southampton until the end of the season but we’d like to keep Grant.”

Midfielder Kane Wills is likely to be ruled out by an ankle injury while Scott Chamberlain is a doubt with a hamstring injury as Rocks bid to gain revenge for the 5-2 defeat in the reverse fixture in December.
