Hastings United boss John Maggs has more selection headaches for Three Bridges visit in Ryman south after his mix-and-match side’s impressive 3-0 League Cup win at Margate in midweek.

Maggs fielded a team consisting largely of players who had been on the bench and youngsters but they were worthy winners over an almost full strength Margate who are ninth in the Ryman premier.

Boss Maggs said: “We were outstanding and the result was no fluke. Every player in my dressing room did themselves no harm at all.

“Matt Darby has sat out the last three games but was outstanding and has got to come into the reckoning. The youngsters belied their age and it is really encouraging.”

Maggs will not be taking struggling Bridges for granted after being held by Corinthian-Casuals and Sittingbourne in recent weeks.

He said: “Everyone wants to turn us over because we are top. What would give a side it's biggest lift of all? Beating Hastings on their own patch.

“But there is fierce competiion for places in our side now and players will have to produce performances if they want to keep their shirts.”

Two-goal hero at Margate Bailo Camara is unavailable, as is Bruno Pacheco, but Tom Vickers could return from a knock picked up at Guernsey.

Bridges manager Paul Faili admits his side will be up against it as they bid to end a run of five consecutive defeats but is sure results will improve once his clutch of new signings settle in.

Jon Dollery, Bayan Fenwick, Matt Daniels and Aaron Roberts all made their debuts in the 3-1 home defeat to Faversham which stretched their winless streak to eight games and left them third from bottom in Ryman south.

Faili said: “We’ve needed to improve the squad and now we have done that hopefully results will pick up. I could do with a couple more new players but things are taking shape.”

Midfielder Lee Carney is not available today.
