Simon Colbran insists joining Crowborough suits his personal circumstances.

Colbran resigned as manager of Horsham on Thursday evening after telling the club his business obligations, as well as travelling issues, had made it difficult to maintain the level of commitment needed to fulfil the role.

Yesterday afternoon he was named as new joint manager of Crowborough, a club where he has twice managed in the past, along with Sean Muggeridge.

Assistant-manager and club stalwart Gary Charman has been placed in temporary charge for Horsham's game at Sittingbourne today and will meet with the club next week to discuss the position on a more permanent basis.

Colbran, who took over as Horsham manager in February 2012, said the growing demands of the part-time role at Gorings Mead were becoming problematic.

He says he has left on good terms but insisted he could not continue and the role with his local club will allow him to give more time to his two businesses.

Colbran said: “I was being asked to do more and more. I was doing 30 hours a week on football and throw in the travelling and the fact I run two businesses I was finding it too much.

“I was getting more and more emails, texts and phone calls every day. When I first went there it wasn’t like that. It is a part-time job but it had become like a full-time job.

“I haven’t left on bad terms. The board have never put pressure on me. Everybody at the club has been brilliant and the supporters really took to me. I hope they can see from when I first took over to now it has been a massive improvement.

“Gary Charman has been brilliant and I really hope they give the job to him.

“Crowborough has always been a club close to my heart. It is local and I will be working with Sean which will take the pressure off.”

Steve Ives, who was caretaker boss, with Muggeridge, will remain as head coach.
