Eastbourne Borough have suffered a major injury blow after it was revealed Adam Watts has broken a foot.

The one-time Fulham defender limped off in last week’s 4-1 defeat at home to Bromley in Conference south.

A scan has since revealed the break and he will be ruled out for a number of weeks.

It continues a frustrating season for Watts who has struggled with a recurring hamstring problem.

Assistant-boss Jay Lovett said: “Adam has a cast on his foot and he will be out for a few weeks.

“He has done well this season and I feel sorry for him. He got injured, came back from that and is now injured again.”

Borough, however, do have defensive options as they prepare for tomorrow’s trip to Sutton.

Skipper Ian Simpemba returns from a one-match ban and could be partnered by Kiran Khinda-John who stood in for him last week.

Lovett himself came on when Watts went off injured against Bromley, Marvin Hamilton could move to the middle from right-back and former Crystal Palace and Plymouth defender Matt Parsons is pushing for his first start.

The experienced Lovett has urged Borough to play their natural game as they look for a first win in five matches in all competitions tomorrow.

He said: “Sutton are a big, physical side. That is why Ian Simpemba coming back in will help us out massively.

“If we concentrate on our football and start playing we will create opportunities. If we start playing the way the opposition do, that is when we will fall into their hands.”
