Eastbourne Borough boss Tommy Widdrington is ready to reward some of his table-topping squad with a bit more security.

Widdrington signed four players on the eve of the season including Dean Sinclair on a short-term deal and three others on a non-contract basis.

One of them, former Crystal Palace defender Kiran Khinda-John, has since signed a contract until the end of the season.

The Borough boss is ready to offer something more permanent to other members of his squad without a season-long contract.

Widdrington said: “There were a couple of players who were signed on a ‘see how it goes’ basis and they have done well.

“I will be speaking to one or two about extending their stay to something slightly more permanent.”

Widdrington is delighted with four wins and a draw in the first five games from a squad which lost a lot of players during the summer.

He believes the core values which have been a feature of his management career have shone through in the players.

The former Salisbury boss said: “It is important you have players who get on and complement each other. It is about character, no one being bigger than the whole thing and about being grounded.

“Nobody is more important than the next bloke and they rely on each other. That is how it works.”

Widdrington is looking for another win as Borough visit Maidenhead today, particularly as they have no game the following weekend following Salisbury’s expulsion.

Khinda-John is ruled out by an ankle injury and Charlie Losasso is still missing with a knee problem but defender Adam Watts is battling to return from a hamstring problem in time for the game.
