Boss Tommy Widdrington has moved to build on Eastbourne Borough’s encouraging start to the season by making a double signing.

Utility player Lloyd Foot was joined at the Conference south pacesetters by striker Elliott Charles, who won two caps for Grenada in 2011.

Charles scored 14 goals in 26 appearances for Borough in the 2012/13 season and has returned to Priory Lane after helping Dover win promotion to Conference premier last season.

Foot had been training with Borough for the last two weeks but is set to make his debut at Concord Rangers after his registration was rubber stamped.

The 21-year-old, who can play in defence or midfield, came through the same Southampton academy set-up that produced Gareth Bale, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Luke Shaw.

Widdrington said: “Lloyd has a good pedigree as they have produced some excellent players at Southampton in recent years.

“He is very versatile which is exactly what you need when you haven’t got a massive squad. I’ve been impressed with his attitude over the last couple of weeks and he will be fighting for a place tomorrow.”

Former Crystal Palace defender Kiran Khinda-John has also agreed a deal to stay at Priory Lane until the end of the season after impressing in the opening three matches.

Widdrington has been delighted with Borough’s start to the season after taking seven points from their opening three games to sit on top of Conference south but still feels there is room for improvement.

He said: “We had a chat in the week about what we could improve on and we all felt we could have started the three games better than we did. We have been slightly slow out of the blocks and it has taken us a while to dominate games.

“It is only a little whinge but if we start quicker it will eradicate the risk of teams punishing us.”
