Eastbourne Borough 3 v 0 Wealdstone Match Report Eastbourne Borough picked up a morale boosting victory over Wealdstone as Nathaniel Pinney, Kane Haysman and Jack Evans all scored to ease any relegation fears at Priory Lane on Saturday.

Before the game Tommy Widdrington’s side were two points above the drop zone, but with a few games in hand. But after this afternoon’s victory Borough will jump above Wealdstone to give themselves a little bit of breathing space.

Borough threatened first in what was a crucial game for the Sports, Haysman won a free-kick just outside the box, Sam Beale floated a ball in but the ball just evaded the onrushing Borough forwards.

In the tenth minute Borough took the lead, through the conventional method of a long ball. Lewis Carey’s goal-kick was misjudged by Wealdstone’s captain Tom Hamblin and Pinney raced through and slotted home to give the Sports a 1-0 lead.

Wealdstone had their first chance at goal through Bradley Hudson-Odoi. The quick striker broke into the Borough box, and twisted Nathan Collier inside out and then flashed an effort across goal which just missed the far post.

The Sports doubled their lead midway through the first-half when Jack Evans burst through the Wealdstone defence after good hold-up play by Pinney.

Evans could have gone on his own, but he unselfishly squared for Haysman who took one touch and rolled the ball beyond Sam Howes in the Wealdstone goal.

Wealdstone should have scored ten minutes before half-time. A cross came in and Wealdstone defender Josh McLeod-Urquhart arrived at the back-post, but he couldn’t do simple thing which was to put the ball in the back of the net.

Time and time again Wealdstone were giving Borough’s potent front-line too much space. A loose ball from Hamblin allowed Pinney to pick out Elliot Romain, but his touch let him down and Howes smothered the chance.

Wealdstone started brightly after the break and Jefferson Louis powered a shot towards goal but Carey was equal to the effort and palmed the ball away from danger.

As the half wore on Borough were getting increasingly penned in, it might have been because of their league predicament; and just after hour mark Craig Stone cleared a Scott McGleish effort off the line, to keep Borough’s lead intact.

When Borough did get possession they just couldn’t keep hold of the ball, both Bouwe Bosma and Evans were guilty of giving the ball in dangerous areas, which was stifling any Borough momentum.

After a period of pressure where Borough were under cosh, Evans looked to have secured a vital three points when Howes got Evans long range shot all wrong.

It was a strike Howes should have really saved, but for Borough it meant the three points were secured in what was a crucial game for Widdrington’s side.
