Next week sees the first game between Lewes and Eastbourne Borough fans, hopefully of many.

There's a small cup up for grabs and for the man who stands out most, a medal. Newhaven FC are hosting the game on Wednesday 24th September with kick off at 7.30pm. Hopefully we can get as many people down watching to further strengthen the friendly rivalry between the two clubs.

He's told us all he can't do the 90 minutes and rightly Eastbourne blogger Jim Stewart is the bookies favourite to be the first player in need of medical attention. Both sides have exchanged some light-hearted banter over the two clubs' forums but whatever people say, this is the biggest game of the season for the fans, not Boxing Day or New Years Day!

Anyway, back to the club!

It's been a difficult patch for Lewes fans. Last Thursday saw the club's television debut, along with the return of former manager Steve King who was a guest of Setanta. The first half went well, we matched our visitors, who fielded neighbouring Brighton's ex-golden boy Leon Knight, and were complimented by the Setanta commentators.

The second half was a completely different story, though. The first goal had two offside decisions incorrectly not given (only found that out from re-watching the game straight after - I must like pain!) and the second came from a free kick that wasn't, just our luck. That, of course, doesn't matter if a team can't defend, which we proved with all four goals. We were all hoping we could nick a good result for the cameras, but the highlight of the match for the fans ended up being the "Blue Square Chip" at half time in which Seb Wallis-Tayler went into second place on their table.

We visit Altrincham this weekend, a club down in the basement end of the table along with us. It's a game we can win, but more importantly need to win. Kevin Keehan has just strengthened the side with the acquisition of Justin Gregory to help the back line and with a bit of luck we will welcome back skipper Danny Cullip, oh how we've missed him.

Could it be that after all these weeks of waiting to report a first team victory, it will be the fans who get the win first? I certainly hope I can report both.
