Three people died in car-related incidents over the bank holiday weekend.

Sussex Police confirmed three separate incidents which resulted in the deaths of three men.

The first happened on Sunday at around 1pm when a 65-year-old man was hit by a motorcycle in Priory Road, Hastings.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and a 25-year-old man from Hastings was arrested in Wellington Place later that day on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He has now been bailed pending further enquiries.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant information such as CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.
"Information can be reported to Sussex Police online or email collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk and quote Operation Cronus."

A second incident was reported on Monday at around 6am near Midhurst.

A man in his 20s was found dead behind the wheel of a car with a gunshot wound after the vehicle crashed into a ditch.

He was the only occupant of the vehicle and the A286 was closed while investigation works were under way.

Sussex Police said the matter has been handed to the coroner.

Also on Monday a 57-year-old motorcyclist died at the scene of a four-vehicle crash on the A21 near Battle.

The collision happened at around 7.25am and involved a black BMW, a grey Honda Jazz, a white Nissan and a gold Triumph Bonneville motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 35-year-old BMW driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been bailed pending further enquiries.
