A car left a “trail of destruction” after crashing in a residential street.

The Mercedes crashed into a traffic island in Dyke Road, Hove, mounted the pavement, hit a utilities box and crashed into a hedge this morning.

Debris was strewn across the road, pavement and grass verge following the incident and a wall was partially knocked down.

The incident caused congestion in the area for a few hours while the car was removed.

Sussex Police said no arrests were made and no injuries were reported.

A passerby in Dyke Road said: “I heard something whizzing along and then there was a loud smash. It’s lucky they weren’t hurt.”
