A boy has been airlifted to hospital after falling through a roof. 

Emergency services were called to Bolton Road, Eastbourne, this afternoon where the 12-year-old boy had fallen.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "Emergency services were called to Bolton Road in Eastbourne to a report of a 12-year-old boy having fallen through the roof of a building.

He was taken to hospital by the ambulance service with serious injuries, not currently considered to be life-threatening."

Police closed Lismore Road in the town this afternoon to allow firefighters to access the roof with an aerial ladder platform. 

In a statement at the time, a spokeswoman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: "We are in attendance at an incident on Lismore Road with two appliances and an aerial ladder platform.

"A road closure is in place and the surrounding roads are congested, please avoid the area."

The road has since reopened.
