Peter Andre has opened up about his experiences with parenting and the awkwardness he faces when his kids throw his past bad behaviour back at him.

The father-of-four shares children Junior, 18, and Princess, 15, with ex-wife Katie Price and Amelia, 9, and Theo, 6, with wife Emily MacDonagh.

The pop star admitted that in his youth, he would turn to alcohol and cigarettes and spend time with groupies while at the height of his chart-topping fame.

Now in his 50s, Peter wants to set a good example for his children.

His eldest son, Junior, has already turned Peter's parenting advice against him.

Speaking to Fabulous Magazine, Peter said: “I told Junior, ‘you need to be really respectful to whoever you date.’

“And he replied, ‘well, have you always been?’ And I said ‘no, I was an idiot. Many times. But I’m teaching you not to be that idiot.’

“He knows that as a teenager and in my 20s I was arrogant and I partied like crazy. But he knows now the last place I’d ever go to is a nightclub – I’ve grown up.”

The Mysterious Girl singer is trying to guide his children based on his past mistakes.

He said: “You can’t smoke a ciggy then say to your son, ‘don’t ever smoke.’

“I remember in the (I’m A Celeb!) jungle, I used to smoke – it was just a different me. I would never touch a cigarette now. So it’s trying to teach the kids that you’re not perfect, and to avoid making those same mistakes.”

Junior Andre has been celebrating turning 18 in style, with bikini-clad girls flocking to share in the celebrations.

He has been tagged in pictures and videos on Instagram partying away on the Balearic island.

His father had earlier revealed to his Instagram followers that he was struggling to come to terms with the idea of his son going on a lads' holiday.

He had spoken about how worried he was for Junior while dropping him off at the airport, with his self-confessed "sick sort of feeling".
