A fish and chip business has been named among the best in Britain at the National Fish and Chip Awards.

The owners behind Hove-based Bankers and Eastbourne’s Churchills have been recognised as among the top three businesses in the “best multiple operators” category.

The Chesterford Group, which also owns fish and chip restaurants across the South coast, has been nominated for the award as they prepare to celebrate their 100th year in business.

Paul Goodgame, managing director of the group, said: “After a very difficult year for the fish and chip industry with record high fish prices and inflation soaring, it’s great to get some positive recognitions for our team that have worked incredibly hard to keep fish and chips at the heart of our communities and the nations favourite.”

“Next year we celebrate being involved in fish and chips for 100 years – what better to celebrate than to be crowned the UK’s best multiple – fingers crossed.”

The group runs five restaurants in Brighton and Sussex including Bankers restaurants in Western Road, Brighton and Hangleton Road in Hangleton.

A final award winner will be crowned at a ceremony to be held in London on February 28, 2023.
