Maria Caulfield, Member of Parliament for Lewes, has praised the work carried out by volunteers at Seaford’s Community Garden during her recent visit.

The Lewes MP - who met with a number of volunteers and organisers during a tour of the garden on Saturday - used the visit as an opportunity to highlight the importance that projects like community gardens play within our society.

First created in 2007, the garden has steadily ‘grown’, and now boats a mixture of vegetables, fruit trees, soft fruit, Mediterranean, herbaceous and dry gardens, a wildlife pond, large poly tunnel and a classroom.

Speaking after the event, Maria said: “It was such a great pleasure to be invited to visit this brilliant community asset. With the sun beating down on the garden on Saturday, the rainbow of colour and integration of people and nature was a real joy to witness.”

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those that have been involved, both previously, and to this day, as without such volunteers projects like this simply wouldn’t exist.”

Seaford Community Garden is open to the public on Wednesdays between 9:30am & 12:30pm throughout the year, as well as from 10am to 12pm during the months of July, August and September.
